The Actor’s Playground

Why did you first fall in love with acting?

My guess is it wasn’t because of scene study, casting workshops, auditioning, critiques, or networking.

Don’t get me wrong, all of these things are important to your career as a professional actor. But for many of us, as we dive into the grind of “making it” as a professional actor (don’t even get me started on what “making it” even means), we can lose our hold on what we first loved about acting.

Before acting was your career, it was play. It was creative. It was imaginative. It was storytelling. It was fun.

I created The Actor’s Playground as a safe space for professional actors to reconnect with their playful side again, free from feedback and career stakes that can hold us back from taking risks and stretching our acting chops.

Ready for some no stakes, feedback-free, all creative time to play?

The Actor’s Playground is

✧ A no stakes, no feedback, safe-exploration zone

✧ Your chance to try ANY scene that excites you, even if it’s: not your “type”, too well known for showcases, a work in progress (or completely cold), too long, too short, etc!

✧ A space to fall back in love with acting

The Actor’s Playground is not

✕ A formal craft class or private coaching

✕ An industry workshop or showcase

✕ Your chance to give unsolicited feedback to fellow actors

What to expect during our meeting

1. Pair Up. During our Zoom meeting, you’ll be assigned a partner to work with in a private Zoom breakout room

2. Play. You will spend half the time running your scene with your partner and half the time being a reader for your partner to run their scene.

Hey, I’m Corrie

According to my grandmother, my love for acting began at 2 years old, when she took me to see Peter Pan. I stood on my chair, leaning on the chair in front of me, mesmerized and captivated by the story unfolding before me. And if you know any 2-year-olds, you know that the fact that I stood unmoving for an entire theatrical production is saying something!

From there, I found any reason to act. I auditioned for my school play. I joined community productions. I wrote and directed “Brother and Sister” movies, forcing my uncooperative little brother to be my costar.

My love continued into my studies, and I eventually moved to NYC following undergrad.

But I realized something. As I became more “professional” I also became more “fearful”. I chose scenes to perform that were “right” for me. I chose opportunities that I knew would show my “talent”. I played characters that I could embody in my sleep.

But…sometimes that can get boring. Where is the stretching? Where is the play? Where is the love for the magic of storytelling I found at 2 years old in an obscure community theater in Maine?

With The Actor’s Playground, I wanted to share a space for fellow actors to rediscover the love for acting they naturally embraced as small children playing make-believe.
